Robert A. "Bob" Blankschaen age 77 of Mentor, died Friday November 24, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at Hospice House, Cleveland. He was born August 14, 1940 in Cleveland.

Bob was a 1958 graduate of Mentor High School, where he was the class Vice President, Outstanding senior athlete, a member of the football, basketball, baseball and track teams throughout his high school years. Bob was also a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Thespian Club, a member of the junior and All School Plays, and a participant at Buckeye Boys State. After graduating from high school Bob attended Hiram College, Kent State University and was a graduate of Lakeland Community College.

He worked 30 plus years at General Motors as an industrial engineer, retiring in 1990.

Bob was a member of the St. Mary Mentor Softball team for many years. In addition to softball, Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing basketball and volleyball.

He loved coaching all of his daughters' softball teams for Mentor Recreation Park and Mentor South Softball Associations, with his wife alongside of him.

Most importantly Bob loved spending time with his family from watching his girls play sports, sing and dance, to eventually watching his grandchildren play sports. He was an avid Mentor Cardinals fan.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Mary E. (Beans) Blankschaen, daughters: Karen Blankschaen, Connie (John Jr.) Hagey, Sheri (Ken) Kuty, Diane (Dan) Compton, grandchildren: Shawn Blankschaen, Todd (Tabitha Toreki) Queener, Ryan (Samantha) Queener, Rachael (Josh Rymer) Hagey, Kyle (Emily Elkins) Hagey, Amber Hagey, Jake & Troy Compton, great-granddaughter: Brooklyn Queener, and brother: William (Leslie) Blankschaen.

Preceding Robert in death are his parents: William and Helen (Shambach) Blankschaen.

A Funeral Mass will be 11 am Monday, December 4, 2017 at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd, Mentor, OH 44060. Please meet at the church at 10:30 am.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
