Jane Doris (Kilgour) Smith, age 92, passed away December 26, 2017 at Heartland of Mentor. She was born August 29, 1925 at Williamsburg Maternity Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, the only child of Anna Dorothea (Hemgen) Kilgour and Alexander Kilgour. She attended PS 89 and Girls Commercial High School in New York City, where she learned secretarial skills. Jane worked at American Airlines for nine years, until she married Edwin W. Smith on August 2, 1952. Within six months of their marriage, Ed's new job took them to Manila, Philippines, where their first daughter was born. In Manila's international community they made friends from around the world. Ed's job later took them to Tehran, Iran, where their second daughter was born, then to Beirut, Lebanon, where they had a rich exposure to Middle Eastern culture.

The family returned to the U.S. in the 1960's and settled in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. Jane worked as an executive secretary for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for more than 25 years. In 1987, Jane and Ed retired to Naples, Fl. During these golden years, Jane worked for Dr. Cook and the Collier Anesthesia Group part-time, took ballroom dancing and organ lessons, and performed for others. She also sang for the elderly in nursing homes once a month and volunteered for Avow Hospice in Naples. She belonged to the Sands Women's Club and had family and friends with whom she shared special events, theater, movies, games and long walks.

She leaves her two daughters, Robin (Stephen) Baum of Painesville, OH and Christine (Joshua) Thulin of Jackson, WY; grandchildren Eric (Erin) Baum, Jase Thulin and Elyse Thulin; great grandchildren Simon, Millicent and Rainer Baum, and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin William Smith and granddaughter Kyla Jane Baum.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Jane wished for gifts to be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105; or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
